Immigrant Food Founders Discuss Their Mission-Driven Culinary Experience

Wild Side Magazine’s Founder and CEO Monica Alford caught up with Immigrant Food co-founders Téa Ivanovic and Peter Schechter about their newest location, which opened just a few weeks ago in Ballston.

“We just landed on Ballston for a few reasons,” Ivanovic said. “I think the demographics work. It’s a lot of young people, but at the same time, people living and working in the area, which you don’t see a lot in DC … it’s more of a European model. We’re both Europeans, so I think we connected to that.”

Driven by a socially conscious mission of celebrating and supporting immigrants, Ivanovic and Schechter spoke about how excited they are to bring their concept across the river.

“We survived because of the social mission of what Immigrant Food stands for, and it believes in defending the vision of America as the immigrant land, the immigrant nation, the fundamental DNA,” Shechter said.
