The North Country Turns The LINE DC into a Stage

Wild Side Media’s inaugural Walk on the Wild Side Listening Party with The North Country, a genre-defying indie folk band, brought an acoustic set to the decadent lobby of The LINE DC, one of the most well-known hotels in Adams Morgan and Northwest Washington Monday, July 15. After the first songs in the lobby, the group joined Wild Side’s Founder and CEO Monica Alford for a live Q&A and seated performance in The Line’s onsite recording studio.

The performance and discussions helped promote The North Country’s new album, “The Future’s All We Need,” and served as a preview to the band’s upcoming show at rock and alternative venue Black Cat Friday, July 19.

Speaking with Wild Side Media, several members of the band discussed their relationship with music, what inspires them and what their new album is about.

“(Music is) just a part of me,” Laurel Halsey, one of The North Country’s singers, said. “For me, especially singing, it’s my love, and it’s just this thing that pours out … It’s something that I feel so much joy when I can engage with it. Like I’m being true to myself in a very real way.”

Listening to “The Future’s All We Need,” it is evident that each member of The North Country loves music. The layered synths on top of an acoustic foundation, paying homage to Brian Eno-era David Bowie just as much as Bob Dylan, displays The North Country’s love for thoughtful lyricism and unique melodies perfectly.
