What makes her world go round?

According to Joy Kingsley-Ibeh, passion, order and dancing come to mind. A celebrity stylist, model, activist and the owner of both Kingsley Models and Style by Kingsley, Joy Kingsley-Ibeh has built a name for herself in the Mid-Atlantic region. As an early installment of Wild Side’s collaborator series- a multimedia project that spotlights creatives and establishments in the D.C. community, Sarah Pollock got to go behind the scenes on a brand shoot to hang out with Joy and watch her in action.

Upon arrival, Joy was knee-deep into setting the tone to good vibes around the studio, blasting Beyoncé, encouraging her client, and collaborating with photographers behind the camera. She swiftly picks out garments for the next shot, and meticulously stages new scenes tailored to a brand shoot for her client, Dr. Alfie — an award-winning psychologist in the DMV.

When Sarah sat down for a discussion with Joy, they delved into Joy’s hopes, dreams, and the journey that brought her to where she is now. Joy remarks, “I saw myself being in the fashion industry because I always wanted to model. I did not know that I would be producing fashion shows. I did not know that I would be styling celebrities. A lot of my life has happened because there was some love and passion in this realm of the fashion industry.”

Being successful is one thing, but extending her knowledge to make the fashion industry a better place makes Kingsley-Ibeh remarkable.

Joy uncovered her unwavering self-advocacy within the fashion industry and how her “community over competition” mentality inspired the launch of her new styling workshop series designed for up-and-coming creatives in fashion.
